External Review of IT@Cornell
An external review was conducted of all Cornell IT organizations. The review includes all units on the Ithaca campus as well as Weill Cornell Medical College. Reviewers were on campus June 12 through 14, 2011 and assessed and provided recommendations in the following areas:
- The current state of the IT environment, with a deeper level of analysis than was possible with the Bain consulting project
- IT Roadmap plans
- CIT effectiveness, capabilities, and structure
- Effectiveness and mandate of IT service groups
- Relationship between service groups and CIT
- IT funding and savings

Scope
The group evaluated and recommended improvements to the mandate, structure, and overall effectiveness of IT organizations, including CIT and the Ithaca campus service groups. It also examined governance, which includes ITGC, ACAC, FABIT, and other related committees and groups, and opportunities for additional synergies between the Ithaca and NYC campuses.
The emergent IT roadmap was also evaluated and improvements were suggested where appropriate for:
- IT Service Management
- Network Connectivity Program
- Academic Technologies
- Enterprise Architecture
- Application Portfolio Management
- Infrastructure Consolidation and Virtualization
- End-user support
- IT Funding
- IT Staff Career Framework
